KP WEBSITES HACKED

KS Correspondent

TEXAS (USA), July 9: The Kashmiri Oversease Association (KOA) of USA web sites were hacked on July 5, 1999 when KOA was celebrating its annual function which was attended by over 500 people. The sites affected were those of KOA (url+www.koausa.org) and Kashmir Information Network (KIN, url=www.kashmi-information.com). The hacker replaced KOA’s homepage with a page containing profanity and reference to ‘gH’. Currently the website is not accessible as the information server is being evaluated for damage caused by the hacker. Kashmiri Overeas Association is an association of Kashmiri Pandits (Hindus) living in United States and its website carries information on socio-culture ethos, religion, and language of Kashmir Pandits.

The KIN website contains information about Kashmir politics and has been in the forefront for the last couple of years in exposing Pakistani misdeeds in Kashmir, which have resulted in the destablization of South Asia and ethnic cleansing of nearly 300,000 Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir valley. Lalit Wanchoo, President of KOA, believes that this cannot but be concidental with the association’s annual function during the previous week, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s meeting with President Bill Clinton and Indian military successes in Kargil area. The KOA and KIN websites have received numerous threats through email in the past from people identifying themselves as either Kashmiri Muslims or Pakistan Muslims. This incident has been reprted to federal authorities for investigation. For any information, please contact

DISTRESS SALE OF KASHMIRI PANDIT PROPERTY CONTINUES UN-ABATED

KS Correspondent

SRINAGAR, June 30: Even after the legislation prohibiting the sale of immoveable properties of Kashmiri Pandits, the sale of the properties in Valley of Kashmir is still continuing. New methods have been evolved to bypass the law to seek permission from the concerned Deputy Commissioner. One of the systems which is being used these days is to give a attorney to a particular person for dealing with the property of the Pandits. The law prohibiting the sale of properties by the migrants was enacted about two years back but since then, thousands of people have purchased land and other properties after obtaining different type of documents mostly the attorneys. State government has achieved little in vacating the un-authorised occupation of the properties of the displaced Kashmiries, who have left behind thousand of kanals of land and orchards in addition to houses and other structures.
